From scoping reviews that examine how research is conducted in a field to systematic reviews that synthesize the evidence, Cook librarians can assist with expert literature reviews by developing a documented, comprehensive literature search and co-authoring the search-methods section of the review.
A growing body of evidence shows that including a librarian on the research team improves the quality and reporting of search strategies and methods and is part of established standards for high-quality reviews.
Cook Evidence Synthesis Service Tiers
Librarians are available to provide in-class instruction on evidence synthesis methodology. To request an instruction session or workshop, submit an Instruction Request Form.
Cook librarians provide evidence synthesis consulting for current TU faculty projects. Partnered collaboration and co-authorship is available depending on availability. For in-depth service requests, please submit an inquiry form as soon as possible—we’re not able to accommodate timelines shorter than six weeks. After you submit the form, someone will contact you to schedule a meeting to discuss your project.
What to Expect From the Initial Meeting
- Discuss timelines and specific consultation needs (see the Service Tiers).
- Review sources to be used and begin a preliminary search strategy.
- Discuss authorship; the librarian may author the methods section and/or guide reporting.
- Receive a follow-up email summarizing next steps and shared expectations.
