About the New System

On May 23, 2024, the Cook OneSearch and library catalog go live. This page describes what’s staying the same and what’s changing with the move to these new systems.

What’s Staying the Same

Many of the features that you have come to count on in the current Cook OneSearch and library catalog will still be available. Some of what is sticking around:

  • E-Resource Access: You will still be able to access 400+ electronic databases and millions of electronic books and journals

  • Borrowing Physical Items: The ability to page items (request TU resources that are on-the-shelf and check them out at the AskUsDesk 24 hours later), request items from other campuses, and interlibrary loan will still be available

  • Permalinks: You will still be able to use these links to go back and retrieve research easily

  • Search Limiters: The ability to narrow search results by date, format, location, and more will still be available.

What’s Upgrading

The new Cook OneSearch and catalog provide a more modern look and improved user experience. Features include:

  • Faster Searching: You can save time by searching nearly all the library’s collections or make a request from another library in one simple search.

  • Easier Discovery: You can uncover resources through virtual title browsing and citation trails and you can find open access and peer reviewed resources more easily.

  • Personalized Search Experience: You can log in to save your favorite searches, mark items for later use and easily export records to citation management systems.

  • Mobile-friendly: The user interface allows researchers to perform all functions using their mobile device.

What It Will Look Like

The platform that’s powering the new Cook OneSearch and catalog will be used by all 18 libraries across the University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions. It’s also used by thousands of academic libraries, such as ours. The image below depicts a sample instance, reflecting the branding of our system, providing insight to what ours will look like.
